Required Qualifications

- Master’s degree in agronomy, crop science, soil science, entomology, plant pathology, weed science, seed science, or a related discipline.
- Teaching experience and background in the agri-business industry.
- Familiarity with crop production and protection practices.
- Experience with forages, pastures, and cover crops.
- Strong communication skills to engage diverse audiences, including agricultural clients and media.
Job Description
Are you eager to make a difference in the agricultural sector? Iowa State University’s Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Extension and Outreach program invites qualified candidates to apply for the Extension Field Agronomist position. This role involves providing research-based guidance to enhance crop production practices and support the agricultural community in South Central Iowa.
The successful candidate will serve multiple counties, with specific locations determined upon hire. The primary office will be located in a county extension office in Iowa, requiring travel to support various counties.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting needs assessments and developing educational programs focused on crop production and protection.
- Engaging with stakeholders interested in pasture and grassland management.
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to address priority agricultural issues.
- Evaluating program effectiveness and documenting impact.
Candidates will work closely with farmers, landowners, agricultural businesses, cooperatives, and community organizations. Building partnerships with local leaders will also be essential.
This position will be filled at either the Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Specialist I or II level:
Extension Specialist I Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
Extension Specialist II Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree plus two years of related experience.
Employment Details
This is a fixed-term position through June 30, 2027, with potential for renewal. Candidates must have legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
